Summer Happenings

Last week Hudson took part in a week long VBS program at a local church.  He was very excited about going and never asked me to stay with him.  Although it was hard to get out of him what it was he learned each day (one day he told me they didn't have a snack while all his friend could remember was that they did have a snack), they got a CD with all of the songs for the week and he really likes to listen to them.  The music has also prompted a lot of questions and discussions, like "Mom, why is Jesus more than just a good man?"
Here's our "on our way to the first day of VBS" pictures, with Hailey this year as she was eager to be included.
On the final day, parents were invited to watch them perform.  Huds stood still and mute on the stage, but looked very cute.  At home, he knows most of the words to the song he wouldn't sing on stage.
In other news, Hudson is starting to like Hailey more and more, which is a great relief to us parents.  They often give each other very nice hugs before bed.
The other night Hailey and Reesie were very entertained watching Keith give Hudson a hair cut.
Hailey is very interested in babies right now.  Yesterday she insisted on holding a "baby" (1 year old) who was at our house.  She likes me to wrap up her favourite animals in blankets and then she cuddles them and gently carries them around the house.  Today she gently carried around her animal until she suddenly crammed it into an empty cereal box that was waiting to go out with the recycling.  And this time Huds was eager to get in on the photo op.
Earlier this week we went for a treat at Starbucks, thanks to Grammy Reed, who gifted us the year end gift cards she got from her students.  Hailey wanted me to put her smoothie into the mesh pocket on the side of the stroller and then she craned her neck to sip from the straw.
Hailey is very eager when opportunities arise to go outside.  When she hears us mention "outside" or "walk" she hurries to the backdoor to find her shoes/hat/sunglasses and Hudson's, too.  This particular day she had earlier insisted on taking off her shirt and putting on this shirt of Hudson's.  When "walk" was mentioned, she put on these dressy sandals and her sunhat (it was 7pm and overcast).  On the way home from the store, she insisted on getting out of the stroller and holding the bananas we'd bought (6!) and her hat.  She has a mind of her own and is very determined.
