Rachel's Ride for Rwanda

This spring Hudson took an interest in Rwanda, particularly in the work of The Wellspring Foundation for Education. A family we know from NLCC is moving to Rwanda to work with Wellspring, which sparked Hudson's interest. We learned about a fundraising bike ride called Rachel's Ride for Rwanda, started by a middle schooler three years ago and designed specifically for kids. Hudson and his friend Ethan quickly signed up for the 5.5km ride, along with their dads, and with Riley as a last minute addition. The girls were in charge of cheering.

Despite the rain, the boys were all very excited today and they did a great job. In fact, Hudson and Ethan were in the top 5 finishers (a bit deceiving as some people biked 10.5km).
Before the race began the Executive Director of Wellspring told the bikers about the impact their fundraising would have in Rwanda. Twice on the bike ride (to Keith) and once when he finished (to me) Hudson said "every pedal I take changes a kid's life" which was almost a direct quote from the ED's talk.
Crossing the finish line.
And in true Hudson fashion, when he got home he got right to work creating "Hudson's Imaginary Stuffy Bike Ride for Rwanda," complete with name tags and signs, just like the ride this morning.
